15 Amazing Webcomics to Check Out

It has been awhile since I've spent any time browsing webcomics, but I decided to peruse one of my favorite forms of entertainment again. Some of these have been out for a few years, so when you have some free time, go back and read the archives. In no particular order...

15. Bite Me! (Completed)

14.  Candi (Ongoing)

13. Scary Go Round (Completed)
"Scary Go Round was a webcomic set in the fictional West Yorkshire town of Tackleford, England, and written by John Allison. It featured bizarre happenings, a "quirky cast", strange creatures, parallel universes, zombies, time travel, reincarnation, nd random spots of tea." (Description from Wikipedia)

12. Inverloch (Completed)
"The story of Inverloch centers around a young man named Acheron, from a horned wolf-like race called the da'kor. After a chance encounter with an elf, he finds himself setting out on a seemingly innocent mission - that of trying to locate Kayn'dar, another elf who has been missing for the past twelve years. Meeting up with new friends and companions along the way, he quickly begins to learn that the world is not quite the peaceful place he believed it to be - embroiled with prejudice, racial segregation, and hidden danger. And the truth behind Kayn'dar's disappearance is something none of the party would ever expect..." (Description from website)

11. The Pheonix Requiem (Completed)

"The Phoenix Requiem is a Victorian-inspired supernatural fantasy story about faith, love, death, and the things we believe in. On a cold December night, a gentleman stumbles into the town of Esk, gunshot wounds leaving a trail of blood in the snow behind him. Despite making a full recovery at the hands of an inexperienced nurse - and deciding to make a new life for himself in the town - he is unable to escape the supernatural beings, both good and bad, that seem to follow him like shadows. As they try to discover why, the nurse must question her beliefs and risk her own life in order to protect her family, her friends, and those that she loves." (Description from website)

10. Flipside (Ongoing)
"Enter Maytag: The hottest (and only) jester girl in town. Her biggest fan is a young man named Crest. After he tries to ask her out and gets rejected, the two of them cross paths again at a poker game, which turns into a game of death for both of them! Enter Bernadette: A swordswoman who dreams of becoming a knight. She may be Maytag & Crest's only hope after they get mixed up in a gang of lunatics, who's violence is quickly spreading across the entire town!" (Description from website)

9. Dead Winter (Ongoing)
"Dead Winter is an action-filled modern fantasy/sci-fi horror story about a post-apocalypse living-dead zombie infested present-day world. It isn't really about zombies, though. It's about people. (Description from website)

8. dream*scar (Ongoing)
"Set in a post-modern alternate reality, dream*scar shows a world where Unhumans, the creatures of myth and lore, live openly amongst humans. The Reveal only happened some 20 years ago, and so times are still relatively chaotic for everyone involved [racism especially rampant]. Admist all this is a girl named Vix. She knows she is an unhuman, and she knows how they are treated, but she is lucky -- she's an empath, and her powers easily hidden. But when something goes wrong, and people end up dead, she begins to realize that there's more to her abilities than she can even comprehend..." (Description from website)

7. Twokinds (Ongoing)
"Twokinds is a webcomic that takes place in a world conflicted with racial tension, primarily between the human-like Humans and the animal-like Keidran. They have dramatically different societies and ideas on how to live and act. It is because of these differences that the two races are almost always in some form of conflict. The story begins as the world hinges on the brink of another war. However, unlike before, this time war seems to be the result of a single man, manipulating the two races for his own personal gain - though he no longer has any memory of doing so." (Description from website) Currently #1 on Top Webcomics.

6. The Meek (Ongoing)

"The Meek is a graphic novel about Angora, an inexperienced young girl who has been sent on a quest to save the world. War looms on the horizon, and at its helm is the Emperor of the North and his hellish adviser. The two countries are overwhelmed with as much terror, crime, disease and revolution as they are with those who wish to create peace. Armed with only her instincts and an unexplainable power, she must experience and judge the world—and decide once and for all if it is truly worth saving." (Description from website)

5. Fey Winds (Ongoing)

4. Earthsong (Ongoing)
http://earthsongsaga.com/
"The planets are living powerful beings and the sentient species that occupy their surfaces are their children. They face a crisis when their elemental lifeblood begins to seep into the children, eventually culminizing into a soulstone which gives them great powers, but at the cost of their life and eventually that of the planets’ too. One childless planet, Earthsong, is given the task of retrieving these children from their homeworlds and bringing them to her surface where they are safe. She is given tools made of Siderean, or star, element which allow her to remove the soulstone from its host and both back to their planet of origin. The hunters, like so many others on the island, are infected- they carry a dormant strain of the undead virus, which will cause them to turn into one of several different types of undead when they die. Music of Fairy Tail

One of my favorite animes is Fairy Tail. One of the main reasons I love it so much is the awesome fight music they play during the battle sequences. Just epic.

Here is a collection of a few of my favorite openings, endings, and instrumentals from the show.

My Top 10 Favorite Anime (So Far)

So I just started my anime journey a few months ago. I was feeling bored and went on an all out anime binge. It may not seem to be that much time, but if you check out my My Anime List, you'll see that I have gotten quite a few animes under my belt. I know there are many, many more animes out there for me to watch, but I feel like I have watched enough that I feel confident to make a Top 10 List.

Obviously this is not the best anime of all time for everyone. This is my personal top 10 favorite anime. I know from others' blogs and videos that the anime loving community can get a bit feral when people's opinions differ from their own. With that being said, this is my Top 10 Favorite Anime List... So Far. I know. I know. It's a weird list. I may change it in the future. (Note: I watched all of these in the subtitled versions, so I can't really say what quality the dubbed versions are if they are available.)

10. La Corda D'Oro: Primo Passo and Secondo Passo

La Corda D'Oro: Primo Passo

Hino Kahoko is a student at a school that is famous for it's music. The student body is split into two groups: the average kids and talented musicians. One day a fairy that only Hino can see sets off the bells that start off a year long music competition. The fairy, Lili, grants Hino a magic violin that can be played by anyone. She is put into the competition with a select group of very good musicians, even though she has never played the violin before. It isn't the best anime by any means, but the reason it is on my list is the amazing classical music and the sweet story.

28 Episodes
On HuluPlus (Only has Primo Passo) and Crunchyroll.

9. Fairy Tail

The guild, Fairy Tail, is the most powerful (and destructive!) wizard guild in the land of Fiore, and Lucy, a celestial wizard wants to join. She meets Natzu, Gray, Erza, and they become the most powerful team in Fairy Tail. This is one of my favorites because of it's awesome battle music (my favorite music of any anime), humor, and the deep friendships of the colorful characters. Later on in the series there are a couple of squee inducing fan girl moments as well. It also follows the manga pretty closely, though there are a few filler episodes and story arcs not found in the manga.

Currently airing. 194 episodes (as of Aug 18 2014)
On HuluPlus, Crunchyroll, and Netflix (Season 1 only).

8. The Pet Girl of Sakurasou (Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo)

Sorata Kanda is a guy that was forced to live in the Sakurasou dorm, the school's place to dump all the problem students, because he keeps adopting stray cats. He meets Mashiro Shiina, an artistic prodigy who is completely unable to take care of herself, among many other quirky characters. This anime is on my list because of the fun characters, humor, romance, and also because it has one of the best endings of just about any anime I've ever watched. The second to last episode literally made me cry.

24 Episodes
Watch on HuluPlus and Crunchyroll.

7. Free: Iwatobi Swim Club

Seriously. As a girl, what's not to like? Aside from the rippling pectorals, there is a really good story. It is centered on these high school guys, some of whom were friends as kids, and their newly started swim club. Friendship, teenage angst, and really beautiful art, especially in the swimming sequences.

Currently airing. 19 episodes (as of Aug 18 2014)
Watch on HuluPlus (Season 2 only) and Crunchyroll.

6. Maid Sama! (Kaichou wa Maid-sama!)

Misaki Ayuzawa is the first female student council president of a formerly all boys school, and has gained the reputation as a boy hating dictator. She comes from a poor family and has secretly gotten a  part time job as a maid in a maid cafe. In spite of this being her most closely guarded secret, she is found out after fellow student, the popular and enigmatic Usui Takumi, sees her in her maid uniform. This is such a great rom-com with so many laugh out loud moments. I loved the story so much. Usui is one of my all time favorite male anime characters. One small downside though, is they stopped the anime at the end of season 2 in spite of the fact that there is more story in the manga. They gave it a good stopping point, but if you're still wanting more you can continue on by reading the manga.

26 Episodes
Watch on HuluPlus.

5. Toradora
"Ryuji Takasu has learned the hard way that appearances can be deceiving. Despite his inwardly sweet personality, his unintentionally sharp gaze and aggressive features give him the air of a delinquent thug, putting his chances at making friends, let alone a girlfriend, next to zero. It’s Ryuji’s first day as a junior in high school and it seems as if things are looking up. He gets to sit in between his only friend, Yusaku, and, more importantly, the girl he’s secretly crushing on, Minori Kushieda. But just when he thinks the stars are aligned in his favor, he unwittingly crosses the most feared girl in school, Taiga Aisaku, making her onto his arch enemy. To top it off, Taiga has moved in right next door to Ryuji and happens to be Minori’s best friend!" (Description from Crunchyroll) This is my favorite romantic anime for many reasons. Loveable characters, humor, and I love how they work their way out of the situations they end up in.

25 episodes
Watch on HuluPlus and Crunchyroll.

4. Sword Art Online and Sword Art Online II
"In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game called Sword Art Online has been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of technology called: Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they die in real life." (Description from Crunchyroll) The story follows two characters, Kirito and Asuna, as they try to fight their way out of the game. Though the story progression of SAO does have its problems, you find yourself really rooting for the characters. The art is amazing and the battles are pretty impressive as well.

SAO- 25 epidsodes
SAO- Watch on HuluPlus, Crunchyroll, and Netflix.

SAO II- Currently airing. 7 Episodes (as of Aug 18, 2014)
SAO II- Watch on HuluPlus and Crunchyroll.

3. Steins;Gate
Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed mad scientist with delusions of grandeur. Along with a few friends he creates a future gadget "laboratory" which in reality is actually a run down apartment where they all hang out. By complete accident they create a time machine that can send messages into the past. As the messages begin to change things more and more, Rintaro must go back and get things back to the way they were before to prevent a terrible future. Though the first few episodes are slow going and confusing, the farther in the series you get, the more everything starts to make sense. Time travel is complicated, but awesome. Has a great opening song sequence too.

24 Episodes.
Watch on HuluPlus.

2. Death Note
"Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer." (Description from Hulu) There is so much to love in this series. It is unpredictable, dark, and gripping, and it features the most amazing battle of intellect I have ever seen. Hands down one of the best anime I've ever seen.

25 Episodes
Watch on HuluPlus and Netflix.

1. Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)
Humanity is on the brink of extinction because of the giant man eating titans that roam the world. To protect the last of the population, the remaining humans built giant walls to keep the titans out and protect the people. The story picks up after 100 years of peace as Eren Yeager and his two childhood friends witness a gigantic titan breach the outer wall. After his mother is killed he vows to kill all titans. This story is so unique and original, that it is no wonder that it's the most popular and most talked about anime around right now. Disclaimer though... do not get too attached to any of the characters. Graphic, violent death is a very real thing in this anime. Epic battles, intriguing characters, and a bit of mystery. Best opening song sequence EVER. This anime is hard core and epic.

25 Episodes. (There is talk of them making more, but it may take a year or two.)
Watch on HuluPlus, Crunchyroll, and Netflix.
